My parents knew Morley and Clara very well for decades. They would get together with other friends and they called themselves the Drama Guild of Canada. This included Margaret Lawrence, the writer, Miriam Morrow, another couple that escapes my memory and my parents Ron and Mary Mathieson and my aunt Violet Mathieson. A generation that made their own entertainment!

I had the pleasure to spend a few afternoons with Morley between 2015 and 2016. I was curator at Museum Strathroy-Caradoc at this time, and worked on a few projects related to Clara, with which Morley was endlessly generous.
I always looked forward to my visits at Morley's home, and had a great time chatting with him. His energy and wit were impressive. I'm living in Toronto now, and every time I meet an old professor from York University or someone affiliated with the archives there, we share a joyous reminiscence about Morley and Clara.
My sincere condolences.

Dr. Thomas supervised me as a wet-behind-the-ears undergraduate student during the summer of 1963. With his enthusiastic support, I analysed long records of temperature from Toronto, using a relatively new technique. He then sponsored submission of the ensuing report for an AGU award - in which our project came second!. However even more important to me at that early stage of my career, was that he NEVER made me even consider that I was female - merely that I was training to be a scientist. In all the intervening years, I have remembered him fondly for his warm and unqualified support, and I’m sure I’m just one of many young scientists he taught and encouraged. My deepest sympathies to his remaining family.

Bonjour,
Je vous offre mes condolances.
J'ai connu Morley à Downsview en 1972 alors que je débutais ma carrière en météorologie.
J'en ai toujours gardé un excellent souvenir.

Hi,
Since Clara's passing in 2013, I have often thought of Morley and hoped that he was well without her. Clara and Morley were great friends of my Mom, Noli Swatman who is now in advanced stages of Alzheimer's and was diagnosed in 2013 - around the time of Clara's passing.
I found Morley to be a kind, generous and brilliant man with a great wit and an infectious life. May he rest in peace and be remembered fondly.
My condolences to you Steven and your entire family
Best,
Deirdre (on behalf of the entire Swatman Family - Noli & Trevor and my sister Carrie (who had stayed at the Strathroy home with my mom on several occasions)).

On behalf of the Department of Geography at Western University, I wish to pass along condolences to the family. It is my understanding that there was a connection to the Department through Morley's friendship with Professor Bob Packer. And as a trained climatologist, I am aware of Morley's extensive contributions to climatology that have a lasting legacy for us all.

I first met and got to know Morley (Mr.Thomas as I always referred to him) in 1990 when I started working in the EC Records/Mail office. It was several weeks before I realized that he was actually retired at this time. Being young and naïve at that time, I wondered why would someone continue to come to their (former) place of employment everyday once retired? They say, that with age comes wisdom and subsequently to me, understanding of the passion and love that Mr. Thomas possessed for his work in his area of expertise. His contributions are no doubt immensely staggering! There are so many things that I recall of Mr. Thomas, but in addition to the above he was always a joy to see and have a chat and share a smile with and always a gentleman.
Mr. Thomas, you will be missed.
George

Morleys passing leaves us all with great sadness and a large space which can't be replaced. We were a great team at Environment Canada back in the 80s and we spoke often after he retired and was volunteering there. A true gentleman.
Deepest sympathies to Steve and family.

My condolences to Morley's family. He was a great help to me when I was doing some research on the early-20th Century Canadian meterological instrument maker James Foster. I included him in the acknowledgements of Faces on Places: A Grotesque Tour of Toronto (Anansi, 2006) for his assistance in my attempts to learn about the sculptures on the University of Toronto admissions building - now the home of the Munk School of Global Affairs and formerly the Dominion Meteorological Service. Morley was generous in sharing his knowledge and his contacts. I was lucky to have had his help.

My sincere condolences to Morley's family. As a meteorologist, I first met Morley in 1967 at the founding meeting of the CMS. I have always admired him as a wonderful and caring person and as brilliant climatologist and historian of Canadian meteorology and climatology. He made many great contributions to our science and our society. He will be long remembered. I had a chance to talk to him on the phone not long ago and hoped to visit him in Strathroy around his 100th birthday - unfortunately that did not happen. His books are in my home library and I still look into them for information. Thank you Morley. I will always remember you and your great contributions. Gordon

Steven, my deepest sympathy to you and your family. What amazing parents you had, both of them! of course it was through Clara that I met Morley when they came to lunch at Glendon on many days and invited me to lunch at their house nearby. They were both incredibly interesting and charming and generous with their good stories about their work.
They will both be remembered with affection and admiration for their personalities and their published work and distinguished careers.
Every good wish

As best friends of my parents, Morley (with Clara, of course) has always been a part of my life.
I had hoped to contribute to his 100th birthday celebrations... but it was not to be. Sincere condolences to the family.

Our dear friend Morley was a gentle kind soul. Having worked for Clara and Morley for many years maintaining the property here in town even when they commuted back and forth to the city. Both always had time for a visit and enjoyed hearing stories of our family especially sporting events. We know the family will take comfort at this difficult time by the pride they both felt for all of you. A lucky long life what we all wish for. Bert and Cindy Pascuzzo
