Obituary of Walter Arnold Landers

It is with great sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of Dr. Walter Landers while surrounded by his family at his residence on November 3, 2024. He was in his 89th year.

Known as "Wally" or "Doc" by his family and friends, he was the loving husband of Janet (nee Walton) for 63 years. Beloved and supportive father of Debbie (Dan), Paul (Amy) and Cathy. Proud grandpa of Alex (Nina), Andrew, Kate, Matthew, Ben and Jacquelyn, and step-grandpa of Daniel and Mattie Marie. Adoring great-grandpa of Kaia. Wally always enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and Kaia and had recently been able to visit with them all.

Wally is survived by his sister Jenny (Martin) Reed, brother-in-law Michael (Sue) Walton and his nieces and nephews. Predeceased by his parents, Walter and Ada, and his sisters, Audrey and Jean.

Wally was born and raised in the Manchester area in England.

He grew up and remained a loyal Manchester United Football Club fan, attending many games as a young lad. He returned on many occasions, as recently as 2022, to attend Man U games or just enjoy the atmosphere at Old Trafford Stadium.

After completing his training and receiving his certification as a Doctor of Medicine, Wally and his young family moved to Hamilton, Canada in 1966 where he began his Canadian medical career at Hamilton General Hospital. In 1967, Wally joined a group of doctors in Caledonia and began his career as a family doctor. Wally was well known for his dedication to his community and going above and beyond what was expected to ensure that everyone he dealt with received the best medical services possible.

Wally loved to sing and play his violin and banjo. Wally was a proud member of the Canadian Male Orpheus Choir for many years, eventually becoming the President. He arranged and participated in many tours across the world singing and making friends. He was an avid golfer; known for his long drives and the friends he made on the course. He was a proud supporter of the “Jr. C” Caledonia Corvairs and served as team doctor and an executive during both of their All Ontario wins.

Wally retired in 1998 after serving 31 years of Medical Practice in Caledonia and spent his final years enjoying friends, family, music, sports, and travel.

Cremation has taken place and a family celebration of life will be held at a later date.
