Fortunately, my hometown of Port Huron, Michigan, is just an hour drive from Grand Bend, Ontario, where both my grandfather’s cottage and the Ferris’ cottage are. Many weeks of each summer were spent in adventuresome exploits with Pat, who was 2 years older and fulfilled the role of a big brother. We shared his great records of the‘60s, parties, Cheryl Ann French Fries, Fisherman Cove fish and chips, beach football and swimming, his forest green sports car, Fleur’s Bakery cinnamon fries, to name just a few. Together, we have gone through the major life events: dating, marriage, parenting, illnesses and family deaths. His calm and sincere kindness was consistent throughout his life, a quality I strove for throughout my years as an emergency physician. We are all truly fortunate and blessed to have had such a wonderful “life coach” and mentor. Robert Barker

Gayle, Wes, Heather, your families and friends We wish we could be there today to celebrate Pat's life. Our families have been linked so closely since the first day Lan and Pat met at SDCI. We have raised our families together and spent many happy times together through the years. Pat and Lan ate many hotdogs in SDCI's gym while we all watched the kids play basketball. Pat influenced our girls with his kindness, patience and a love of the sport. We will always be thankful for the time he shared and impact he had. We are all so privileged to have known him. Gayle, Wesley, Heather and Family Doreen and I would like to express our condolences at the passing of Pat. We both have so many special memories of him as a history teacher, basetball coach and friend. His caring and encouragement during our formative high school years will never be forgotten. He was yet another example of the many dedicated SDCI teachers/coaches we were so lucky to have. Gayle, Doreen and I were so happy that you were both able to attend our wedding 43 years ago. Your attendance made it even more special. The photo we have attached is one of our favourite memories of Pat. He looked so calm and confident about the outcome of that championship. I am so sorry to hear of Mr. Ferris death. I was lucky to go to SDCI when he was there and appreciate the way he treated the students even if you didn't have any of his classes or play sports.
