Obituary of Iwan Smolders
Tragically and unexpectedly, Iwan Johannes Smolders, 45, of Adelaide-Metcalfe, Ontario, passed away on October 11, 2021 just outside Strathroy, Ontario. Loving husband of Sonia Freiter, devoted and proud dad to Sebastian and Katrina, brother to Frances (Larry) Sikkema, and Hanneke Smolders, uncle to Sadie and Cody. Cherished son of Bertie Smolders, predeceased by his dad Peter Smolders (2016).
Born in Eindhoven, The Netherlands, Iwan grew up surrounded by family. Sundays were spent playing soccer with cousins in the back yard. In 1993, his parents moved to Canada where he found and made his home.
He married his best friend Sonia in 2004 and built a home and family in Strathroy. His life was his family and kids, being involved in every activity he could with them, he simply was the best dad. Iwan was always ready to help, family and friends knew you could always count on him. Farming was in his blood, time on the fields or advising clients about everything was something he excelled in and loved. He was well respected for his professional knowledge and common sense approach to farming and life.
Iwan was well known throughout the community for all his acts of kindness and worked not only through the community but also on a personal note with Mount Brydges and Kerwood Scouting, The Kerwood Optimist Club, The Brooke Alvinston Skating Club, Lambton Shores Dragon Boat Club, Taxandria and Strathroy United Soccer Clubs and any other person who asked for help.
The family wishes to extend their gratitude to the entire community for all their support and kindness during this time.
