Obituary of Walter DeRuiter

It is with deep sadness the family of Walter DeRuiter of Strathroy, in his 82nd year; announces his peaceful passing with family by his side on Saturday, September 15th, 2018. Devoted husband of 58 years to Lydia DeRuiter (neé Speelman). Loving father of Marlene (Bert) Duister, the late Carol (1981), the late Dickie (1971), Sandra (Wing) Chung and Dan (Megumi). Proud Grandpa of Robin (Allen), Derrick, Tina (Jeff), Rachel, Andrew (Patti) and Daisy. Opa to his great-grandson Easton. Cherished brother of the late Dick, 2010 (Jean) and Lawrence (Nancy). Dear brother-in-law of Maria VanDyk, Ronnie Van Kempen, Wilhelmina (Jan) Vandergeest, Martin (Antonia) Speelman, Joanne (John) Mantel, Ina (John) Hoogstra, John (Corrie) Speelman, Arie (JoAnn) Speelman and Mary (Douglas) Gibbon. Walt will be fondly remembered by his many nieces and nephews. Friends and family will be received on Thursday, September 20th, 2018 from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. at Westmount Christian Reformed Church, 405 Drury Lane, Strathroy, where a Memorial Service will take place on Friday, September 21st, 2018 at 1 p.m. Pastor Peter Hoytema officiating. Private interment in Mt. Brydges Cemetery. The family would like to thank Dr. (Phil) Vandewalle and the nursing staff at Strathroy Middlesex General Hospital for their compassion and care shown to Walt. As expressions of sympathy, donations to the Strathroy Community Christian School or the Strathroy Middlesex General Hospital Foundation would be appreciated by the family.
