Obituary of Shirley Bernice Gregory

Gregory, Shirley Thuss (Nee Case) With heavy hearts the family of the late Shirley Gregory announce her passing on Monday, June 18th, 2018 with her daughters and family by her side. Shirley was in her 68th year and bravely fought for each breath of air as her COPD disease progressively worsened. Shirley is the proud mother of Kimberley Mendonca (Sherri), Sharlene Ruiz (Frank), and Tanya Thuss. She is the much loved grandmother of Joshua Mendonca, Matthew, Natalia, and Maya Ruiz. Predeceased by her late husband Paul Gregory (1999), father Levi Wesley Case (1966), sister Donna Jean Gregson (2002) and brother Lorne Oscar Case (2008). Also predeceased by her brothers-in-law Fred Fonger (1972) and George Skinner (2016). Survived by her mother Jean Hailstone (94 years of age), sisters Mary Anne Skinner and Ruth Huston (Mike) as well as many nieces and nephews. Shirley will be greatly missed by her gentleman friend, Len Stewart and fondly remembered by Sherry Wight and the father of her children Jerry Thuss and his wife Darlene. Shirley held many jobs in her working life. She was a partner at Grandma’s Kitchen Restaurant in Strathroy in the 70’s, waitressed for many years at the Black Angus Restaurant, attended Humber College in Toronto as a mature student to become a Registered Practical Nurse. Once licensed, she practised nursing at several nursing homes, with more than one in-home nursing service and most notably, at Parkwood Hospital in London until her retirement years. A Celebration of life will be held on Sunday, June 24th, 2018 at the Strathroy Senior’s Centre from 1:00p.m. until the time of service at 3:00p.m. As expressions of sympathy, donations may be made to a charity of one’s choice, Parkwood Hospital or Strathroy Middlesex General Hospital. Arrangements entrusted to DENNING’S OF STRATHROY. Online condolences and donations may be left at www.strathroyfuneralhome.com.
