I met Janet and Cameron so many years ago now, through her daughter Jennifer. A highly unusual friendship, because I live in the US. When I visited Jennifer for the first time, one of the first things she did was introduce me to her mother. Both she and her husband were so very gracious to show me their home and all of the beautiful antiques they had acquired. Their relationship was very special and was the kind of relationship that I wanted for my own family.
Janet was a strong woman and was always beautifully dressed. I hope I can maintain the kind of style Janet had until she died. She was strong, beautiful, active, and nothing could keep her down for long.
She will be missed by a lot of the people whose lives she touched (even if she didn't know it).
I am one of those people.

My sincerest condolences... Janet was a lovely lady who always had a smile. I will always remember her tending to the lovely flowers in the hallway Geranium way. I could tell she had a special touch with the plants and you could see her enjoyment. Remembering Janet's wonderful and gentle soul will forever remain in our hearts. I will miss our morning talks and her beautiful smile. Janet was such a wonderful help in many ways especially when it came to watering and grooming the flowers. We will surely miss the presence of a truly loveable and kind person.

To Janet's Family,
I would like to extend my Deepest Sympathy for your loss of a BEAUTIFUL woman.
Mrs. Aitkens (Janet) taught me all I knew about being an RNA at Strathroy Hospital where I graduated in May of 1972. She was an inspiration to us all and made learning so interesting and fun. She was strict but got her point across so that we would remember it.
I so clearly remember her rigid diet to keep her diabetes under control and thought what a discipline it must take to have COLD fish nearly every day for lunch.
She had some rough spots in her life and I was so pleased when she became Mrs. Somerville.
Treasure your memories of her and keep them close to your heart where she will always remain and remember that
LOVE never dies.
