Obituary of Ena Dykstra
At the age of 92, on Monday, April 11th, 2016, Ena Dykstra (nee Postma) passed away peacefully just as the sun broke through the cloudy sky to bless her with a sweet, sun-kissed passage to heaven where she was reunited with her beloved husband Tom. Ena was born the last of 10 children in Friesland, Holland and immigrated to Canada in 1948. She was a devoted wife, loving mother and loyal sister. Ena was a model of goodness, justice and honesty and was always supportive of family and offered care and compassion to those in need. Ena was a highly skilled knitter and a wonderful cook whose meals will always be remembered by all who enjoyed them; she was a very intelligent lady with a gift for language, who never failed at any task put before her.
Ena will be greatly missed by her sons Cecil and John Dykstra; daughter-in-law Shirley; grandchildren Tracy, Tom and Bev; niece Greitje; and many great-grandchildren and friends. Ena was predeceased by her parents and siblings, her beloved husband Tom, infant daughter Margaret, grandson Steven and granddaughter Angie.
Ena always adored children and was a captivating story-teller. During the last months of her journey, Odie Bartlett brought Ena great joy by sharing stories, songs, dances, smiles and hugs. Odie and all of Ena’s grandchildren will forever remember that she taught us how to play Checkers, the true meaning of fairness and family values.
Ena will be missed by many people in many places. May there be solace in knowing that her last days were spent in the most wonderful care at McGarrell Place Nursing Home, London. Family and friends are invited to a visitation on Thursday, April 14th, 2016 from 7-9pm at Denning’s of Strathroy. A Celebration of Ena’s Life will be held on Friday, April 15th at 1pm at Denning’s of Strathroy.
As an expression of sympathy, donations to the Alzheimer’s Society of Canada and the Ivan United Church would be greatly appreciated. Tributes may be sent via denning.ca.
