Obituary of Gerrit Vander Meer

Went to be with his Lord, peacefully at Strathroy Middlesex General Hospital on Wednesday, September 24, 2014 with his family at his side. Gerrit Vander Meer of Strathroy at the age of 83. Gerrit is survived by his loving wife Janie and by his beloved children Diane (Henry) Noordhof of Poplar Hill, Henry (Sarah) Vander Meer of Brixham, England, Teresa (Raymond) Kootstra of Camlachie, Linda (Ken) Atkinson of Lucknow and Sid (Deana) Vander Meer of Embro. Gerrit will be fondly remembered by his grandchildren Janice (Dave) Nagy, Jason (Katie) Noordhof, Krista (Shawn) Pare, Jennifer (Brad) Nicpon, Sarah Vander Meer, Mike (Lisa) Vander Meer, Melissa (Tony) Rondinelli, Marlene (Mark) Guilbeault, Lindsay Kootstra, Justin and Jessica Atkinson and Taylor Vander Meer and Danica MacDonald and also by 12 great grandchildren. Gerrit is also survived by his siblings Minke (+Jaap) de Leeuw, Sipke (+Rowena) Vander Meer, Hilkje (Evert) Brent and predeceased by sister Anna (Herman) Lanting. Gerrit is also survived by his brothers and sisters-in-law Aafke (Folkert) Graansma, Janna (Gerrit) Graansma, Jannie (Peter) Breedveld, Wietse (Mary) Zwart, Sylvia (Bert) Den Hartog, Hilda Brent, Linda Klinker, Diane (Frank) Dam and predeceased by brothers-in-law Albert Zwart, Peter Zwart and Don Klinker. Gerrit is also predeceased by his parents Hendrick and Tryntje Vander Meer and by his mother and father-in-law Jan and Dieuwerke Zwart. Visitation will be held at the East Christian Reformed Church (476 Metcalfe Street East) Strathroy, on Friday, September 26th from 2-4 and 7-9pm. Funeral service will be held at the Church on Saturday, September 27th, 2014 at 1pm with Pastor Derek Bouma officiating. Interment to follow at Strathroy Cemetery.
