Obituary of Alma Pearson

Alma Pearl (Swift) Pearson, died on July 28, a week before her 96th birthday. Alma was worn in Metcalfe Township to William and Amelia Ann Swift, trained at London Normal School and taught in Ontario from Pelee Island to the Ottawa Valley. She was required to give up teaching when she married Winston Pearson in 1936. She later taught part time in Strathroy schools and gave long service to Strathroy United Church. For many years she headed the Primary Department of the Sunday School. Winston died in 1984. Alma is survived by her two sons Bob of Strathroy and Gord of Poplar Hill, their spouses Sandra and Shirley, five grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her sister Jean (Mrs. Victor Ford) of Strathroy and brother Don Swift of Fredericton, N.B. her sister Annie (Mrs. Ken Thompson) died in 1996. Visitation at the Denning Bros. Funeral Home, 32 Metcalfe Street West, Strathroy on Friday, July 30 from 2-4 & 7-9 p.m. where Funeral service will be held on Saturday, July 31 at 1 p.m. with Rev. Marjorie Smith officiating. Interment in Strathroy Cemetery. Alma received excellent care from the VON and Strathroy and University Hospitals. In lieu of flowers, a donation to Strathroy Hospital or VON Foundations would be appreciated.
