Obituary of Ross Hicks

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the peaceful passing of Ross Hicks on September 27, 2024, at the age of 78, with his beloved family by his side. Ross lived a life rich in love, laughter, and dedication. His presence will be deeply missed by all who knew him. 
Born and raised in Valcartier Village, Quebec, Ross spent many happy years as a turkey farmer, embracing the joys and challenges of rural life. Later, he moved to Strathroy, where he continued to create lasting memories with his family. His work ethic and love for his children reflected the way he approached every aspect of life—with quiet strength and unshakable dedication. 
Ross was the loving father of Angie (Justin) Baresich, Jeffrey (Krista) Hicks, Alicia (Owen) McElroy, and Robbie (Lenore) Hicks. Ross will be deeply missed by his loving wife Joanne Macdonald. He shared a special bond with Joanne’s son Frazer (Marcy), and granddaughter Olivia, who cherished him dearly. Known as “Grampa” to his grandchildren—Madison, Alexa, and Hayden Baresich; Mackenzie, Marty, and Michael Hicks; Abbie and Felicity McElroy; and Henley and Emmett Hicks—Ross found his greatest joy in watching and cheering them on in every sport they played, embodying the spirit of a true fan. 
But it wasn’t just his love for sports that made Ross so special—it was his ability to listen, his sharp wit, and his famous one-liners. He left a lasting impact on everyone fortunate enough to meet him. His life, gentle in nature, resonated deeply with those around him, and spontaneous family dance parties were a frequent reminder of the joy he spread. 
In his memory, the family asks that, in lieu of flowers, donations be made to Parkwood Hospital or Mingo McEwen fund, a cause close to Ross's heart. 
We are very grateful for the care Joanne provided to our dad these last few years.  
Dad – we hope you have an endless amount of strawberry shortcakes, 6 hand euchre games and good old dance parties. We will love you forever. See you ‘Thursday’, à l’heure!  

A Celebration of Life will be held at Denning’s of Strathroy on Saturday, October 5th, 2024, from 2pm-5pm.
