Obituary of Elly Ayris

Peacefully, at Strathroy Middlesex General Hospital on September 16th, 2024, Elliette "Elly" Sophia Mariette Marguerite Ayris in her 81st year.

Cherished wife of the late “Bill” William Ayris (2003).

Loving mom of Greg (Sheila) and their daughter Sierra (Donny) and their daughter Nova and son Sean (Alanna); Darryl (Deborah) and their late son Douglas (2017) and daughter Rebecca (Graham); and Dwayne (Sara) and their daughter Chiara.

Remembered by siblings Marcella (the late Tony), the late Germaine (the late Fred), the late John (Cathy), the late Roger (Marion), Michelle, Maurice (Mae), the late Mary Ellen, Joe (Audrey), the late Andy (Michele), the late Raymond (the late Brenda).

Elly will be missed by many nieces, nephews, family and friends.

Elly enjoyed simple pleasures in life – like a McDonald’s tea with one milk and one sweetener.

She was so blessed to have so many really good friends to spend time with, weekly lunches and baking those special treats that everyone loved.

Elly was a hard-working woman. Elly poured her heart and soul into everything that she did. Mom always had some project on the go - could be a crochet project for a new baby in the family.

Prior to the United Church in Kerwood closing she was an active member helping with church dinners and the strawberry socials.

Bill and Elly spent 50 plus years in the 1st Kerwood Beavers, Cubs, Scouts and Ventures, taking Bill and Elly, along with the troops as far west as Alberta and as far East as P.E.I.. They continued scouting in Strathroy for a few years until retirement.

Elly continued volunteering in the community until she had health issues. Elly was really blessed to have great friends- Marion and Karen whose support and companionship provided Elly great comfort and friendship.

Also thanks to David, her next door neighbour for the many check-ins and support. Special mention to Reverend Brad Morrison for his many visits and prayers throughout her illness.

Elly faced every challenge with remarkable courage and determination. Her brave fight was matched by unwavering support of her loving family and friends and Cookie.  Their presence was a constant reminder of how deeply she was cherished.

Elly was a big believer and contributor to her community through countless hours of her dedication through her volunteering with Scouts Canada for over 50 years along with S.E.A.R.C.H. and her faith within the United Church.

Friends will be received at Denning’s of Strathroy on Thursday from 1-3 & 6-8 p.m. Funeral Service will be held in the Denning's of Strathroy on Friday, September 20, 2024, at 11:00 a.m. with visitation one hour prior.  Interment in Strathroy Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations to C.M.H.A.T.V.; Strathroy Site & The Heart & Stroke Foundation.
