I am completely devastated to hear about Dr Sanders passing. He was the best physician I had ever had and he saved my life. I was sick for 12 years before I found Dr Sanders. He was the ONLY doctor who listened to me. He validated my symptoms and he treated my illness when every other doctor told me that it was in my head. When I saw Dr Sanders for the first time, I cried with him because he took me seriously and he understood my illness. He looked at me while I was crying and he said "I'm going to get you better, okay?" And he did. He worked with me and treated me and he took me seriously. This man was an absolute godsend and I am so sorry for everyone who is grieving him who knew him closely. I will NEVER forget Dr. Sanders and neither will my family. I have my life because of him.
Rest peacefully, Dr Sanders.
I hope you knew how many lives you saved and changed before you passed. You were an absolute blessing to everyone who came in contact with you.

We extend our heartfelt condolences to Dr. Dave's family. He was held in high esteem and will be greatly missed. His witty remarks, always delivered with a twinkle in his eyes, will be remembered, and his calm guidance in medical matters earned him our complete trust. Having Dr. Dave on our Trivia Team for many years was a pleasure, allowing us to know him beyond the professional level. We admired his adventurous nature in various pursuits (one of which was orchestrating a flash mob for a staff Christmas party!)
The outpouring of tributes for Dr. Dave truly reflects his significance to our community and the deep sadness felt by all.

My condolences go out to the Sanders family. I had the great pleasure of working with Dr Sanders “David” for 20+ years. I began my nursing career with him always willing to teach and explain. He was an exceptional physician who truly cared and took the time to listen. He found answers for patient's when most couldn’t or had failed. I often said I would put my life in his hands. He was brilliant, loved photography, golf , dogs, and any form of homemade baked goods. To this day I have one of his photographs in my home. Penmanship was not his strong suit. I truly believe sometimes he did it on purpose just to see if you could figure it out. A puzzle to solve. This is an irreplaceable loss to so many people in so many ways. He will be profoundly missed, but never forgotten.

It took 12 years, many appointments, and many exhaustive attempts to find help before arriving in front of Dr. Sanders, worn out by the journey but hopeful he could help. I was not disappointed. I was greeted with empathy and kindness, and a surprising awareness of what I had gone through without even hearing the story. Like many of his patients, I found myself in awe of this man. He had infectious energy, calmness mixed with confidence that bestowed a feeling of “we got this” and he didn’t shy away from the challenge. He formally diagnosed myself and my daughter with lyme disease. My daughter has most of her life back, and while I am still in my journey, I am profoundly grateful to Dr. Sanders for putting me on a path of healing. To his family who enabled/helped Dr. Sanders to become the physician he was, please know that I personally understand what it takes to support physicians in their work. For 40 years you shared your husband, son, and father with thousands of patients, each of us taking what we needed from him. I do hope that we fueled his soul and replenished his spirit in the success he brought each of us. And in these words, I hope there is comfort knowing that you too, along side this great man, helped so many.

Dr. Sanders was a brilliant physician and an extremely kind man. I was one of the lucky people who knew him personally and was treated by him as a patient. In the mid 90s I presented to strathroy hospital’s ER extremely sick. No one could figure out what was wrong. My dad was on a curling trip with Dr. Sanders at the time in another city and Dr. Sanders was able to figure out what was wrong with me over the phone! Dave Sanders was my colleague here in Strathroy. To me, the most remarkable characteristic of this man was that he took on patients that many other doctors had given up on. He worked very hard to help them, read voraciously on their condition and never gave up on them. I really appreciated his wisdom and the fact he had the patient’s best interests at heart. When I retired he presented me with a picture of my home in Fort Frances that he had taken when he golfed there. Whenever I look at it I think of him. I am so sorry to say goodbye to him.

My heartfelt condolences to Dr. Sanders' wife, children, and extended family, as well as Lindsay.
I was heartbroken to learn of his passing today. And not ashamed to say that I've been in tears much of the afternoon. I see that I'm not alone in this.
Dr. Sanders literally gave me my life back, after 5.5 years of undiagnosed Lyme Disease. I am filled with gratitude for his intelligence and skill, his kindness, patient listening, and common-sense guidance – all wrapped in good humour (sometimes with rock 'n roll references!). I am convinced that these conversations have been a significant contribution to my healing and (based on other tributes here) to that of other patients as well. Thinking about it today, I realize that Dr. Sanders was a person who makes you want to be the best person you can be. I am richer for having known him. How many people inspire others like that?
I hope that his loved ones find comfort in hearing stories about how he much he saved and improved the lives of so many people. Thank you for sharing him with all of us. May his spirit carry on.

I won the lottery when Dr. Sanders accepted me on as his patient four years ago. His kindness, belief in me, advocacy and sheer brilliance brought me back to vitality when so many others believed there was nothing wrong with me, or that nothing could be done to treat me. He proved them wrong. Anyone who was lucky enough to be in his Circle of Care was extremely fortunate to have such a champion fight for them to get better - he worked tirelessly to make sure his patients were taken care of. And he was the reason I was able to eventually return back to work. I am forever grateful for the stars aligning four years ago when I met Dr. Sanders and all that he has done for me. To say I am heartbroken is an understatement. The world has lost a wonderful man but Heaven has gained a Guardian Angel Doctor.

My deepest and sincerest condolences to Dr. Sanders’s family, coworkers, colleagues, and the town of Strathroy. This man was a brave, fearless giant of compassion. He had the commitment and intellectual muscle to defend the “controversial” treatments that he provided which would end up saving and/or restoring the lives of those who were fortunate enough to meet him. He took in those whom others had dismissed, disregarded, disrespected, laughed at, and who had been rendered desperate, confused, tired, and in pain for, in some cases, decades. He gave them hope, and then delivered in grand style. I was lucky enough to be one such patient and will remember him and the playful, boyish glint in his eye forever. “It’s kinda fun!” he told me once. Ya, all of us noticed you felt that way, and we’re all vastly, immeasurably the better for it. Thank you for everything.

Doctor Sanders
This man was one of the best , always happy to help any family out anytime of the day or night.
I cannot say even close to enough he is irreplaceable they simply do not make them like him, a void that will be impossible to fill.
He helped our family out many times and gave us extra years of life to enjoy when my parents were failing.
This man made time when families needed the extra help .
Extremely extraordinary smart caring kind man and made everyone feel they mattered.
I feel so bad for his family and friends I will truly miss him.
If I had one wish I would wish him back they just do not make a better doctor then he was or friend.
I feel so bad.
Sincerely

Dr Sanders took me on as a patient without a referral. I had called his office in tears over the pain I was experiencing from having had Chronic Lyme for almost 20yrs. He took me in and took my pain away. He put me in touch with the right surgeons & I am now on the mend. He was wonderful. As he put it, he, “made me human again”. I am incredibly grateful to have been his patient. And I will miss him. And I loved his old school medical bag, covered in stickers, that he always carried.

I had heard of Dr. Sanders many years ago through a friend that worked at the clinic. When I found myself terribly ill and making no headway finding out the cause I asked my family doctor to send me to him. I was so sick that I don’t remember much of my first few appointments that my husband took me to. He started me on some antibiotics and I felt a stirring of life come back to me. I remember the next visit well as he told me I looked like I was starting to show signs of coming back. While he couldn’t completely fix me he could help me regain my life. He certainly did that. He also was very real and we often discussed new normals. He was caring, compassionate and very witty. I used to think he travelled around the hospital asking anyone who lived a few country blocks away from me if they knew me as he often asked me if I knew this person or that person? When I said no, my husband is the social butterfly he would laugh and tell me they knew me! One time he even sent me home with a prescription for forgiveness from my husband. I had backed our new truck into a post and done some serious damage. His note said “People with Lyme can’t back up worth a darn”
Rest easy Dr. Sanders and know there’s a full army down here missing you and thankful for what you brought to our lives.

Dr Sanders was definitely a one of a kind doctor and an amazing human being. I first met him when I started as a casual clerk at Strathroy Hospital, first day I was introduced to him he wanted to know where I was from and what made my world go round. He took the time to actually listen and remembered it all each time he popped into the ward. Always calling me by name and asking how my day was going. It was there that I saw just how talented and brilliant he was. So many years later when I became sick and no other doctors could figure it out, I told them to send me to Dr Sanders knowing he would figure it out. He diagnosed me right off the hop and has supported me the past few years in a battle of ups and downs. Each visit he’d validate my unusual symptoms and encourage me that brighter days were ahead. It was an every 6 week pep talk with someone that took the time to actually listen. Our community has lost one of the greatest. my heart goes out to his adored Pam, family, colleagues and patients as well as Lindsay. Rest in Peace Dr Sanders, the world will not be the same and we will never forget you

I remember the first time meeting Dr. Sanders, he always had a great big smile on his face and would ask how everyone was doing. He welcomed me with open arms and made sure I was comfortable with the environment that I was in. He would always ask every morning from then until I switched to a different department. RIP Dr. Sanders. I credit you for having saved my life after 2 years on the physician merry-go-round. I landed admitted under your care in hospital and I have been with you for the past 9 years. God Bless you! You solved what was wrong with me where no other physician could and saw so many. You took me from bedridden and gave me my life back.
Dr. Sanders was always warm, empathetic, compassionate, and most all attentive. He actually cared and listened to you. He was never hurried and always took time to chat about a round of golf, our shared love of pups and he never missed asking about my mother. He cared for my Dad and helped make it possible for us to palliate him at home, calling and checking in daily which was far beyond the call of duty. Rest in Peace dear Dr. Sanders. Dear Pam & family,
My heart goes out to you during this difficult time.
Dr. Sanders and I go back many years - from being one of my first customers upon starting my business in Strathroy in the early 90s to becoming his patient over 26 years ago. I couldn't have gotten through these past 26 years without him - even when he thought I had too many "medical" opinions during my office visits with him, he would put a smile on his face and listen knowing the entire time he would tell me how it was going to be once I was done talking.
My deepest sympathy,

Dr Dave was my hero; my strength in the darkness. For over 20 years I suffered from many illness and he saved my life. He was always so kind and interested in you! He took the time to get to know his patients and treat them with respect, dignity and honestly. He was a beacon for the Lyme Community and will be dearly missed. RIP my Friend. I see the lines of clouds from you golfing in the heavens today. YOU will be missed! Thank you for all that you did!

My uncle David was one of the most amazing men I have ever known, his passing has left us broken. He was the best doctor but far from that the best uncle a kid could ask for. He was always there for my family and never questioned anything. I love you so much uncle David and will miss you always.

My condolences to Dr Sander’s Family and Lindsay. The care my family and myself received saved our lives. He was so knowledgeable, kind and funny. Thank you for so many years of compassion and care. He was the only Dr to find the missing piece of my puzzle for my diagnosis. He will be greatly missed.
