Walter Huckle

Obituary of Walter Huckle

Walter Huckle passed away peacefully at home on August 9th, 2024.  He was 61.  Devoted husband to Tami.  Father to Ryan (Sarah), Amanda, and Damieon.  Beloved grandfather to Frederick and Louis.  Loving brother to Katherine (Bob, predeceased), Debi (Leon), Dennis (Sheila), and Mark (Heather).  Brother-in-law to Terry (Caroline), Chris (Risa), and Lance.  Son-in-Law to Berniece, and Gord and Joan (predeceased).  Predeceased by his brother Richard (1957), mother Rita (1997), Hiram (1980) and Betty “Ma” Durfy (2002), and father Walter (2023).  Loved by his nieces, Samantha and Nicole, and extended family: Wayne, Geri, Shawn, godson Nick, Katie, Shane, Diamond, Adam, Tesza, Chase, Andrew, the Durfy boys, and many others.

He was a crack shot flogger who loved chasing his ball around the links with a Tim’s in hand and friends at his side.  While he shared a kindred spirit with Grumpy the dwarf, he had a kind and generous heart with a multifaceted life.  He was an accomplished competitive swimmer in his youth, where he met the mother of his children, Jerry.  He played sports, ref’d ball hockey, and loved his bowling leagues.  When not enjoying his crime dramas, he cheered on his favourite teams on TV, proudly repping the Dolphins long after Marino retired.  He was also an avid racing fan, whether it was from Ma’s couch on the weekends, in the pits at Ridgeway, the stands at Buxton and Delaware, or live from the inside fields as Bill Elliott zoomed by.  With Tami, he loved travelling, snorkelling off many coasts throughout the Caribbean, swimming with the dolphins, and was ever enchanted at Disneyland.  Together, he and Tami raised their boys proudly.  He supported his community and service organizations, raising money for kids, bingos for cadets, helping his local Legion branch, and building up Peacekeeper Park for cadets and summer camps.  He enjoyed the quieter sides of life, taking pride in his gardening and flowers, and feeling joy in holiday decorating.  He worked hard his whole life, forever giving to his family.  His favourite times were games nights with friends and family, laughing as he won and lost quarters playing cards.  His latest joys were playing with his grandchildren and chasing them around the pool.  Though his health slowed him down in time, it never stopped his love for his family.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, August 17th, from 1-5pm at DENNING’S OF STRATHROY.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to support the mental health for first responders. A link to donate can be found below.
