Obituary of Wilma Mary McKean

McKean, Wilma Mary Fay (Nee Sterling)

It is with profound sadness the family announces the passing of their dear mom, Wilma Mary McKean, on January 9th, 2024 at the age of 91, where she is rejoined with her beloved Leroy McKean (2015).  Loving mother of Brenda Burns, Bradley (Karen) McKean and Pamela McKean. Proud grandma of Ashley, Craig, Colton, Reno, Savannah, and Sterling McKean. Great-grandmother of Penelope, Lily and Vander Thyssen.

On a cold crisp day, December 8, 1932, Wilma was the second daughter born to a farming couple at Metcalfe Township.
Wilma has very fond memories of helping on the farm milking cows, picking apples and helping in the garden. Even though she had to walk a mile to school, Wilma considered her childhood as a "good life". It was during her high school years when Wilma formed a friendship with a fellow classmate named Eddie. An orphan living on neighbouring farm, Eddie confided in Wilma about his poor living conditions. Wilma, being a Good Samaritan, took it upon herself one day to bring Eddie home with her! Eddie thrived and eventually became a successful Gemologist. After high school, Wilma enrolled in a business course at Wells Academy, London, Ontario. The intensive program covered business administration subjects such as typing, shorthand, and bookkeeping. If Wilma's hands could have talked while typing they would have said, "Slow down!" Wilma enjoyed a business career with the Royal Bank, Northern Life, Associate Finance, Clark Wright and even Mac Cuddy! Wilma would marry (60 years) have three childrern and six grandchildren. In her most recent years, after Leroy passed away, Wilma occupied her time and eased her sorrow by doing many jigsaw puzzles. She was lovingly known as the "Puzzle Queen".

A Special thank you to all staff at Strathmere Lodge for their care and compassion while Wilma was a resident.
