I was so saddened to hear of Peter's passing. My memories of Peter were of such kindness, deep intellect, curiosity, gentleness, a proud Canadian, making those around him feel special, and someone who truly loved his family. I met Peter many years ago as his massage therapist on Long Island when he was working and playing tennis. Later after his accident, I came to his home on Point Lookout to provide therapeutic bodywork sessions, and met his lovely wife, Mary, and son Kevin, I moved, they moved, and we lost touch. Over 20 years had passed. I was thinking of Peter the other week, despite not being in touch for so long, and wondering how he was. I found myself Googling his name and saw that he had passed just a couple of weeks prior. I was so saddened. Mary, Kevin, and Peter's siblings - I send my love and deepest condolences.

Peter and I were good friends for many years. Our favorite sport was tennis and we even played that outside in the winter. Sometime we cleared off the court just to be able to play. Peter was a Renaissance man. He could do plumbing, carpentry, electrical work, etc.
He bought a 1958 Jaguar convertible and restored it. He was a accomplished psychologist, able to do stain glass restoration, a writer, an excellent singer in a exclusive choir in NYC, a great athletic, a scuba diver, a great sailor, who could fix any motor on land or sea.
May he rest in peace. Bob Penaskovic

Sal Umana writes from Tampa FL Peter and I were former Redemptorist priests. We met in Pt.Lookout, NY and owned a sailboat together and had many adventures both on the Atlantic ocean and on the tennis courts, and on the ski slopes. Peter was always looking for more adventures whether on land, or at sea, or on the Trivial Pursuit Board in his kitchen. There was never a dull moment with Peter. But then the unspeakable tragedy of the accident that made him a quadraplegic taught us all for the past 27 years that the greatest adventure of all is to bow down and accept whatever God allows to happen to us, with faith, humility, courage, gentleness, and love. Peter was an inspiration who challenged every one who knew him. May he rest in peace. Amen.

Mary, Kevin and Emma
I have a feature film of memories of Peter, from his drives home in his VW Beatle to my first drive to the Bronx and later Point Lookout for his and Mary’s unconditional love and support. He was no saint, but to me a rock and like all his brothers and sisters shaped my values. I look forward to celebrating in Strathroy his life with everyone in proper tradition, telling stories and remembrances on tennis, scuba diving, singing….. Peter told me many things, but one I never forgot was “learn to tolerate others imperfections, as if you can’t you won’t have any friends or relationships.”
See you Thursday.
