Obituary of Helen Childs

Helen Childs (nee Poppleton) passed away peacefully on Friday, September 19, 2008 at Strathmere Lodge, Strathroy, in her 88th year. A long time resident of South Porcupine, Ontario, Helen was active in St. Paul's Anglican Church and the Eastern Star. She was born in Haileybury, Ontario, youngest daughter of George Poppleton and May McGranahan who settled there in 1903. Helen had many fond memories of her youth in Haileybury growing up in a large and fun-loving family. She worked for the CIBC South Porcupine and later for many years for Dr. Neville Hughes. Predeceased by her beloved husband Robert (Bob) Childs (1995). Loving mother of Cindy (John) Skowronski and Paul (Joan) Childs of Strathroy. Proud and loving grandmother to Marnie Childs of London and Perry Childs of Strathroy, special grandmother to Stephen Roth (Michelle McKinnon) and great-grandmother to Jacob and Noah Roth of Stratford. Dear sister of Clifford Poppleton (Helen) of Oshawa. Predeceased by brothers and sisters Doris Isnor, Amy Parnell, Marjorie Lupien, Robert, Tom, Henry and their spouses and by much loved cousin Winnifred Oliver. Greatly missed by loving nieces and nephews Carla (Gary) Moore, Ann Dugnus, Gillian (George) McVeigh, Stewart (Marilyn) Parnell, Patricia (Moe) Quevillon, Doug Poppleton, Steven (Crystal) Poppleton, Diane (Winston) Plant and Faye Mitchell. Predeceased by her dear niece Mary Glen Madden and nephew Bryan Poppleton. Helen is also survived by her many great nieces and nephews. Cremation has taken place. A private family memorial service will be held at Denning Bros. Funeral Home, Strathroy. Memorial donations to St. Paul's Anglican Church, South Porcupine or the Heart & Stroke Foundation would be greatly appreciated by the family.
