Obituary of Helen Smith
Suddenly, but peacefully, at Strathroy Middlesex Hospital. Helen Rose Smith passed away December 29, 2008 in her 85th year. Beloved mother of Sharon (Dorlie) Clark of Strathroy, Dianne (Bob) Butler of Goderich, Leonard (Marta) Smith of Strathroy, and Lawrence (Karen) Smith of Inwood. Cherished grandmother of 14 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great-grandchild. Dear sister to Jean (Ray) Barnes of Goderich. Predeceased by her brother Jack Leitch and sister-in-law Sylvia, sister Doris McKeen and brother-in-law Lawrence and sister Grace Leitch. Also remembered by many nieces and nephews. Helen was born November 4, 1924 in Ailsa Craig, Ont. and lived in Strathroy and area all her life. She loved golf, bowling and darts. She was a Life Member of the Strathroy Legion Sir Arthur Currie Branch 116 and Ladies Auxiliary, holding for many years the position of Sergeant at Arms, and served as President of the Auxiliary in1975 and 76. Helen was involved in helping with many banquets and events in the community. She was also involved in the Strathroy Lions Club were she received the Helen Keller Award. Friends will be received at the Denning Bros. Funeral Home, Strathroy on Thursday, Jan 1, 2008 from 2-4 and 7-9 PM where a funeral service will be held on Friday, Jan 2 at 11 AM with Rev. Charles Seed officiating. Interment in Strathroy Cemetery. A Legion Memorial Service will be held at 6:30 PM on Thursday evening. Donations to your charity of choice would be appreciated.
