Obituary of Walter Silas Zavitz
At Sprucedale Care Centre on Thursday, September 23rd, 2021; Walter Silas Zavitz passed away at the age of 92. Loving husband of the late Dorothy Zavitz (2020). Devoted father of Marilyn (Ron) Bulmer and James (Mary) Zavitz. Cherished grandfather of Sherri, Ryan and Greg Bulmer; Haley (Ryan) Dixon, Megan (Jake) Knoop and Kassie (John) Kersten. Lovingly remembered by his 8 great-grandchildren. Survived by his brother Lyle Zavitz (Carole) and sister-in-law Frances Bender. Predeceased by his brothers Ernie Zavitz and Alan Zavitz. Walter will be greatly missed by his nieces, nephews and friends.
Walter’s favourite pastime was stockcar racing. He started racing in the early fifties at all the local dirt tracks and continued on asphalt until calling it quits in 1977. He was a regular at tracks such as Delaware, Nilestown, Flamboro, Cayuga, Mt. Clemens, Windsor and many more.
A graveside service will be held at Poplar Hill Cemetery on Monday, September 27th, 2021 at 11 a.m. Registration is required as we have limited capacity due to the COVID-19 restrictions.
