Obituary of Elizabeth Kurpe
Kurpe, Elizabeth - Elizabeth Kurpe (nee Bodnar) The family of Elizabeth Kurpe(Liz)are saddened to announce her passing at Strathmere Lodge, in Strathroy, Ontario on March 23rd. Born December 18, 1913 in Eger, Hungary, Elizabeth was in her 96th year. Predeceased by her husband, Albert, and her four brothers and sister Anne Dako, of Strathroy. She is survived by her daughter, Anne Matthews of Newmarket, granddaughter Kathryn Matthews, her brother John Bodnar (Mary), and her nieces Susan and Eva. Elizabeth lived a long and full life, filled with many adventures. Having left Hungary prior to WWII she settled in London, England along with her younger sister, Anne. After the war, she made the decision to emigrate to Canada, settling in Toronto. Marriage to Albert, brought her to the London area, to a large tobacco farm near Mt. Brydges; she always maintained that she was a city girl at heart, transplanted to the country. Upon retirement from farming, Elizabeth and Albert built a new home on Dell Drive, where a wonderful neighbourhood grew up around them. Her love of gardening was legendary, as were her jam making skills and her pumpkin pies. Her indomitable spirit and independent nature were inspiring. The family would like to thank the nursing team, palliative caregivers and staff at Strathmere Lodge. Friends may call at Denning Bros. Funeral Home, 32 Metcalfe Street W, Strathroy, on Thursday, March 26, 11:00 am to 12:00 noon. A private family service will follow. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation. Messages of condolence are welcomed at www.denning.ca
