Obituary of Richard Joseph Goods

It is with great sadness that the family of Richard Joseph Goods of Strathroy announces his passing on Sunday, July 25, 2021 at the age of 75.

Rick is survived by his wife Karin of 34 years, daughters Kim (Greg) Smith, Sharon (Byron) Wilton and son Kevin Goods, brother Dave Goods, sister Susan Goods and grandchildren Riley Smith and Andrew Goods along with loving nieces and nephews. Predeceased by his first wife Colleen and parents Joseph and Charlotte. Rick was a loving father, husband, grandfather, and friend.

Rick was born in The Pas, Manitoba and grew up in Winnipeg, Edmonton, and London, ON. Rick studied forestry at Sir Sandford Fleming College and went on to work for what was then the Ontario Department of Lands and Forests in White River and other locations. When that job devolved into being mainly what Rick called a “glorified fish cop” he pivoted to a new career. His aptitude and passion for electronics and mechanics led him to a career with Canada Post in the maintenance department that spanned over 3 decades.

Rick had a love of all animals, which he passed on to his children, and there was never a time in his life that he didn’t have a pet of some kind.  He was always there to rescue wildlife, even building enclosures to keep them safe.

Since retiring he had found a second home at the Strathroy Legion making many great friends. He served on the Executive and was the Boy Scout liaison and helped with the Poppy Fund. Weekends would often find him there helping out or just relaxing with friends.

Visitation and celebration of life service will be held at the Strathroy Legion on Thursday, July 29th, 2021 from 3-7 p.m. Donations can be made to the Canadian Cancer Society or The Strathroy Legion Branch 116. Arrangements entrusted to DENNING’S OF STRATHROY, (519) 245-1023.
