Obituary of Jessie Alexandra Thompson
Jessie Alexandra Thompson has rejoined her loving husband for eternity. Jessie a long time resident of Chartwell Riverside Retirement Residence, passed away peacefully on Dec. 28, 2020 at University hospital at the age of 105 years.
Jessie was born in Strathroy to George and Amanda McDonald in 1915. She married her high school sweetheart, Prof. Norman R. Thompson, at the Presbyterian Church in Strathroy on March 5, 1943. Norman passed on Dec. 2, 2018 at the age of 103 years.
They had seventy-five very happy years together alternating between Ontario, Michigan State University and Florida. Norm’s sabbaticals in agronomy also allowed them to work in places like Peru and Holland.
Jessie is survived by her sister Marion Savage; children, Paul Buckingham (Leighanne) and Jane Matthies; grandchildren, Lindsay Rivard (Jonathan) and Mark Buckingham; and their great-grandchildren, Maggie and Norman Rivard. She will be dearly missed. May she rest in peace.
We thank all the medical and palliative care teams that made Jessie’s stay comfortable in these extremely stressful times.
