Dear Ann and family,
We heard about the death of Eli from our uncle Gezinus and aunt Sjoerdtje and we send you our condolences.
The last time we met Eli and Ann was in 2004. Our mother Dieuwke died in 2003 in Spain, when her sister Jantje (Jany) and her two daughters Alie and Riekje were with her. The next year, when our tante Jantje became 80, the four of us made a trip to Canada.
We then also visited our dad's family: the Kok's.
We have good memories of that visit: a family gathering in the basement! We stayed for the night and Eli showed us "George's auto" and both Ann and Eli took good care of us, as you can see at the pictures below.
So we hope that our memories about the good times we had- also from earlier visits - will be a comfort to you all.
Warm regards,
Riekje, Roel, Albert and Alie.

I always thought Eli was a very quiet person who did not say much, as I had only met him at larger family gatherings.
But I think that had much more to do with his hearing difficulties and having a hard time following conversations in a large group setting. When I visited Eli and Annie at home, the conversations with Eli were very good. I had some good chuckles when he told me the stories of Annie getting very worried he had wondered off and gotten lost, but the way he explained it, he had gotten tired and sat down on the curb and could not get back up again, or that he had climbed up a stair pathway and threw his cane over the side so he could use both hands to climb back down, and he couldn't find his cane back in the bushes at the bottom. My prayers are with the family as they go through this loss. - Jamie VanderWier
