Cleophas Leonard Gubbels in his 87th year. Born in Helmond, The Netherlands. Immigrated to Canada in 1950 to pursue his life's work as a farmer. Beloved husband of Martha Gubbels (Aarts-van de Ven). Predeceased by his wife Ardina Gubbels (van der Heyden) in l988. Dear father of Hugh Gubbels, Rosemary Pumfrey (Philip), Cleo Gubbels (Maria), Joann Vergeer (Harry), Maryann Arnold (Vince), Joe Gubbels (Betty), Leoni Paquette (Claude), Dinah Leslie (Neil), and Carl Gubbels. Dear step-father of Anthony van de Ven (Ruth), Wilma van de Ven, Trudy van de Ven (Mageed), Leon van de Ven (Alex), Eric van de Ven (Angie), and Christine van de Ven (Tracey). Loving Opa of twenty-six grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, and several step-grandchildren. Dear brother of Catherine Vanden Elzen, William Gubbels, Leonard Gubbels, Gerda Van Den Hurk, and Hubert Gubbels. Predeceased by his grandson, Matthew Arnold; brothers Pierre Gubbels and Gerard Gubbels; sisters Maria van der Heyden, Dora Van Paassen, and by three infant sisters. Friends will be received at Denning Bros. Funeral Home on Friday, October 16 from 2-4 and 7-9 PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at All Saints Roman Catholic Church, Strathroy on Saturday, October 17 at 11 AM with Fr. Lucio Couto officiating. Interment in Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery, Mt. Brydges. Donations to the Strathroy Hospital Foundation or All Saints Church Building Fund would be appreciated. Prayers will be said at the funeral home Friday evening at 6:30 PM.
