When I was in public school (decades ago) and maybe 8 or 10 years old, Leroy came into our classroom (he may have the principal at the time) and I remember thinking too myself "That's What a man looks like!"
Now obviously my father is a paragon of masculinity as well, but Leroy had enough of an impact on me for me to remember this to this day.
Leroy also had to address my behavior on a number of occasions (I was bad in school) and he always spoke to me in a straight forward manner and cut me a lot of slack.
It was appreciated.
Throughout my adult life his care and concern for me showed through at Church.
A good man.

Barb, Jana, Craig and families
We just heard of Leroy's passing, the afternoon after the funeral. Our deepest condolences to your families and our apologies for not being in attendance.
Leroy was a very respected member of the community with his past activities and giving his time to help others. Dad and Mom enjoyed your friendship and card games over the years and Leroy, Dad and Bill made a good trio at Valleyview and the Maple Island cottage.
May the good memories help with the sad times now

My condolences to Barbara & family.
Leroy's passing brought back lots of cherished memories of growing up in the sports-oriented town of Strathroy during the 1950's.
Leroy and I were teammates on several baseball, hockey, and high school basketball teams. I always appreciated his quiet ways and upbeat attitude.
The last time we played together was in October of 1959 ... with our team winning the Ontario Junior "B" Baseball Championship for Strathroy. (Leroy is pictured in the front row of the celebratory photo published in The Age Dispatch.)
Based on the (growing) number of tributes from others, Leroy continued to be a wonderfully supportive teammate for his family, friends, and community over the next 60 years.
May he rest in peace.

Mr. Parsons was a teacher which I looked forward to having since the early grades. I was thrilled when I got him in grade 8. He taught us to love and to have tolerance and patience ( so much more than just educational stuff ). He was credible in every way. Valleyview Public School and the community was so lucky to have him. I doubt I would be where I am today without his support in Grade 8 which prepped us so well for high school and beyond.
I had always intended to find him and shake his hand and say thank you.
Thank you Mr. Parsons.

Mr. Parsons was the best teacher I had growing up. I’m so grateful for the year I got to be in his class. He was perfect for the grade 8 group moving on from a small elementary school to a huge secondary school. The lessons taught were not all academic, but they all stuck.
I am sure mine is not the only story of his great impact.
The loss is one for the whole community. Sending condolences to his family and close friends who will feel it deeply.
