Memories of Aunt Jari are mixed into my jumbled recollections of childhood. She would suddenly be there, with Uncle Nick beside her. For example, showing up at my school, unexpectedly, (towing a boat!) to take me home one afternoon when I was ill and lying down in the nurse's office. Then she would be gone...to Australia! She was the last to go, of my mother's siblings and their spouses. Family is a funny, far flung, sometimes tenuous thing, but enduring nonetheless. I am deeply saddened by her passing, despite her long, long life. Saddened, in particular, for my cousins, Byron John, Betty Jean and Danny. From the four of Ida May's brood (Norma, Paola, Mario, Sara) to the three of you, much compassion and affection.

Byron, Dan and Betty Jean, and all your lovely families, so sorry to hear about Aunt Jari, I have so many lovely memories of her. I thought you might like the photo I found, it's of your Mom and mine, they were such good friends as well as sisters in law. The back of the photo is dated March 1944, Central Park, New York

I knew her for over 40 years. I met her after university. She watched my children grow up. She entertained my grandson. She was kind and gentle. She tended the garden and the kitchen as well as the chancel, transepts and nave She loved St. John’s St John’s loved her back She was adored and she will be missed.
