Obituary of Peter Klynstra

Suddenly, in his 89th year, on Saturday, October 6, 2012, Peter Klynstra, of Strathroy, went to rest eternally with his Lord. He passed away at home with his beloved wife of 60 years, Jane by his side. Peter was the loving father of Agnes (Hector) Vincent, Janet (Keith) Smith, Pat (Dave) Hunter and Judy (Phil) Pearson. He was loved by his seven grandchildren, Dennis, Sarah, Joshua, Jeremy, Jesse, Drew, and Kelsey and two great-grandchildren, Connor and Max. Also survived by cousins, nieces and nephews in the Netherlands. Born in Koudum in the province of Friesland, The Netherlands, Peter immigrated to Canada in 1952. He was a firm believer in social justice and became very involved with the New Democratic Party, running as a candidate in the federal and provincial elections in the 1970's and holding numerous executive positions in the Oxford County NDP Riding Association. He was a member of the Dutch Canadian Legion and served as Vice-President and later as President in their local executive. During his retirement years he enjoyed gardening and was always tending his flowers. Visitors will be received at Denning Bros. Funeral Home, Strathroy from 3:00 - 6:00 PM on Wednesday, October 10, 2012. The funeral service will be held at Westmount Christian Reformed Church, 405 Drury Lane, Strathroy on Thursday, October 11, 2012 at 2:00 PM. A private interment will take place at the Putnam Cemetery in Putnam. In lieu of flowers, donations would be appreciated to the Strathroy-Middlesex General Hospital or The Heart & Stroke Foundation.
