Obituary of Ross Smith

Peacefully on November 24, 2012, at Strathroy Middlesex General Hospital, in his 93rd year, a life-long resident of Strathroy. Beloved husband of 65 years to Doris Smith (nee Wright). Loving father to Murray and Mary Lynn Smith of London and Marsha and John Raven of Fort Saskatchewan, Alberta. He will be missed by his grandchildren Suzanne and Rodney Smith-Merkley, Peter and Anna (Karlen) Raven, Lyndsay and Greg Cartright, Heather Raven, Andrew Smith and Michael Raven. Great-grandchildren Anderson, Jacob and Petra Smith-Merkley. Dear brother of Kathleen Butler and brother-in-law of Yvonne (Bruce) Lambert and Thelma Smith. Predeceased by his brothers Lyle, Norman and Stuart Smith and his sisters Fern Garton, Jean Lightfoot and Ieleen Gough. Member and former elder of St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church, Strathroy. Veteran of the Canadian Navy in World War II and proud member of the Sir Arthur Currie Branch 116 of the Royal Canadian Legion and the London Branch of the Royal Canadian Naval Association. Special thanks to the doctors and nurses of Strathroy Hospital for their care and compassion, and to the staff of Strathmere Lodge for their support and care of Ross. Cremation has taken place. Friends and family will be received at Denning Bros. Funeral Home, Strathroy on Wednesday from 7-9 p.m. A Legion Service followed by a Funeral Service will be held on Thursday, November 29, 2012 at St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church, 152 Albert Street, Strathroy at 11 a.m. with Rev. Steve Boose officiating. Lunch will follow the service. Interment will take place in Strathroy Cemetery. In honour of Ross' life, donations may be made to the Royal Canadian Legion, St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church or a charity or your choice.
