Obituary of Johannes Franciscus Vermeulen
On Sunday, March 17, 2024, at Strathroy Middlesex General Hospital, Johannes “John” Vermeulen passed away peacefully in his 84th year surrounded by his family.
Cherished by his wife Charlene (nee Haynes) of 57 years. Loving Dad of Rhonda Vermeulen (Walter Martin) and Kari Annett (Dwight). Devoted Grampa of Karlene, Rachel, Elyse, Bailey and Charlie. Dear brother of the late Richard Vermeulen (Marilyn), the late Helen and Jack Sales, Tony and Lorraine Vermeulen (the late Leni) and Jerry Vermeulen (Alice). Brother-in-law of the late Terry Haynes. John will be missed by his nieces, nephews, family and friends in Canada and Holland.
Born in Holland on December 3, 1940, John moved to Canada with his family in 1954. John was very involved in the community as a proud member of the Strathroy Lion’s Club for 39 years. John enjoyed traveling with his friends and visiting family in Holland, especially Lambert and Mia. John had many passions and interests such as hockey, golf, fishing trips, and most importantly his family, especially his grandchildren who held a special place in his heart. Friday night dinners and camping trips with John created special memories that his family will hold on to forever.
Casual Visitation will be held at DENNINGS of STRATHROY (32 Metcalfe St. W.) on Friday, March 22, 2024, from 5pm until 8pm. There will also be a Celebration of Life for John on Saturday, May 11, 2024 at the Strathroy Lion’s Club (432 Albert St.) from 4pm until 9pm. A private family internment will be held at the Strathroy Cemetery at later date.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Strathroy Lion’s Club or the Palliative Care Unit at Strathroy Middlesex General Hospital.
