I remember John from my high school days and being at their house - as I was friends with Kari. He loved his girls and was a wonderful family man. Godspeed John. Wishing Charlene, Rhonda, Kari and families much love at this sad time.

May he rest in peace. The last time I saw John was at another State-related funeral in September of 2019. We talked about some of the limousine outings we had as a group which we enjoyed. He was a great boss to me.
In our thoughts. Noleen and Bob Szoller

Condolences to Charlene and all of John’s family on your great loss. John was a dear friend of my brother Gary during their high school years. I remember the two of them as teenagers fixing up our basement to make it dance party ready. John and Charlene set the standard for jiving and doing the limbo at those parties. John was a great favourite and always welcome at our house. His whole family were a delight to know and we are fortunate that they chose to come to Canada.

When the Vermeulens immigrated to Canada, they lived next door to us at 591 Rosedale in London. They were a wonderful family and I recall my mother befriending them immediately and helping them get acclimatized to the neighbourhood and customs.
They were all so friendly and I got to know John in particular due to our proximate ages. He was always smiling and often exhibited his skills as an expert castanet player. Brother Richard became our family's go to jeweller.
My sincere condolences Charlene to you and the entire family. John will be sorely missed and my memories of the family's early days in Canada are vivid.
Sincerely, Al Otton

Uncle John,
You were the family MC. My earliest memory is singing Christmas songs at the Vermeulen Christmas party. Your smile could light up a room and you always made people feel good. I won’t forget the wink when you caught me sneaking a Heineken. My last memory is you wearing the Lotto Jumbo jersey to support Alexey! I hope you are singing Dutch songs with Dad and Aunt Helen. You made the family strong. You and Aunt Charlene will always hold a special place in my heart.
Love Aaron and Sandra

Dear Charlene and Families
We were so very saddened to hear about John and his passing. He was the most caring individual that you could think of. He would always talk about you, the kids and especially the grandchildren. He would do anything for them - camping, trips to the Pinery and driving them to their jobs at the Pinery too. His jokes were always something to look forward to, along with his kindness when he would offer us a breakfast sandwich from the Strathroy Lion's Club fundraiser at the Strathroy Market. He always had a story when he brought the grandkids bikes in for fixing. It was a joy to bring you and John vegetables from our garden, and you were both always so thankful. The countless hours he spent volunteering ( and Loving it) for his family, friends and the Strathroy Lion's Club - we know he will be TRULY missed.
We will miss him in our neighborhood and his white vehicle with JVM on his plates. We always knew it was him coming. We will really miss him and his kindness and SMILE ! He will never be forgotten.
Deepest Sympathy and our Condolences to you Charlene and your Family. Please let us know if there is anything that we can do for you.

We ( the Corbetts) lived at 7 Wating St London & the Vermuelin next doorbat # 9. When I was a kid my mom’s appendix burst . It was John who rushed her to the hospital possibly saving her life. RIP John & condolences to family & friends. I have fond memories of the whole family. Street hockey with Tony & Jerry for endless hours is a treasured memory & driving Helens Hillman up & down the driveway. Their mom Mrs Vermuelin was an angel. Gone but not forgotten
