Obituary of Maria Ines Teixeira

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the peaceful passing of Maria Ines Leonardo Teixeira at Watford Quality care home on Sunday April 7, 2024.

Maria is predeceased by her parents Francisco Jose Leonardo and Maria Da Conceicao Freitas Leonardo. Maria’s warmth, compassion and abundance of love will be forever cherished by her husband Mateus Teixeira and adoring children Filomena (Tony), Lourdes, Fatima (Ray), Frank and John (Sherry). Maria was the loving Grandma of Mindy, Randy, Desiree (Ryan), Brandon, Chelsea (Adrian) and Allissa. Her love grew with the birth of her great grandchildren Keira, Kendall, Lila, Roran and Kennedy.

Maria was born in Santa Cruz das Flores on September 25, 1942. It was there she met her husband and was blessed with having her five children. She immigrated to Canada with her family in  October of 1973, moving to Strathroy, ON where they would plant their roots. She made many cherished friendships, and had many fond memories of the working at both Cuddy farms Hatchery and Lullaby’s slippery factory in Mount Brydges.

Maria was deeply devoted to the Holy Spirit, and enjoyed sharing her love of God through praying the rosary, reading her favourite bible passages, singing religious songs and participating in the festa do espreito Santo. She was hardworking and persistent with just the right amount of stubbornness, making her dedicated to accomplish whatever she put her mind to. She taught herself how to crochet, knit, sew and cook, all things that would become her favourite past times. However her most treasured past time would always be pouring her heart and soul into raising her children and grandchildren. They will always fondly remember her home cooked meals, her silly dances paired with her lively singing, the comfort of watching her knit from her chair, her radiant smile as she walked alongside you in the gardens, her ability to always see the beauty in things and her warm and comforting embrace.

Her absence will be deeply felt by all those who had the privilege of knowing her, and her vibrance and radiating love for life leave behind a legacy that will be remembered by many. Fly high our beautiful dove.

Visitation will take place on Tuesday, April 9th, 2024 at Dennings of Strathroy, 32 Metcalfe St. W. from 5-8 p.m.  A Mass of Christian Burial will take place at All Saint's Catholic Church, 124 Front St. E. on Wednesday, April 10th, 2024 at 11:00 a.m. A private family interment will follow .
