Obituary of Silas Zekveld
On Saturday, October 4th our dear sweet boy, our firstborn son Silas Timothy, went to be with our great Heavenly Father. Our hearts are broken that we don’t have him here with us, but we are fully confident that he is safely in the arms of Jesus, singing His praises wholeheartedly. Silas already was beginning to experience the love of Jesus here on earth and now he gets to enjoy that fully.
We are so thankful for the 3.5 years we had with Silas. His infectious smile, his thrilling stories, his sweet heart. Silas had such an attention for the world around him - he noticed the sunrise and the sunset; he loved animals and he had just learned the excitement of climbing trees. He loved his brother Jerry so much - no one could make Jerry giggle like his brother.
Silas loved to sing - he had an incredible memory. Every Sunday morning, we would recite Psalm 84 together. Silas would say the last line of the Psalm especially enthusiastically - “Blessed is the man who trusts in You!”
We’re so incredibly thankful for the covenant promises that God makes to us and to our children. At Silas’s baptism we prayed: “Comfort Silas in your grace so that when he leaves this life and its constant struggle against the power of sin, he may appear before the judgment seat of Christ, Your Son, without fear.” Silas may not yet have understood the constant struggle of sin in his youthfulness, and we take comfort knowing that he never has to experience the consequences of sin again.
1 Corinthians 15 says that “death is swallowed up in victory. O death, where is your victory? O death, where is your sting? The sting of death is sin, and the power of sin is the law. But thanks be to God who gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.”
We look forward to the day when we will hold our baby again in eternity.
