Judy and family
We were so sorry to hear about John. We had hoped to go to Dennings today but I wasn't well. We haven't seen you much since you moved to London but we still remember all the great times we had in Europe together. So sorry to have missed you today but couldn't be helped. May you too remember the good times and not so much the sad. Thinking of you and hope to see you sometime soon.
In our thoughts and prayers.
John and Nellie Vander Velden

Mr. Mackey and I go waaay back to my public school years. Even at that age I knew that he was so active, interested and involved. He, and our school (Southdale) were setting a standard for arts and academics and it certainly made an impression on me and my peers. More recently visits to my store by Judy and John and now JJ and Liz would put me on a nostalgia trip to those very pleasant times. Im greatly sorry for your loss, and ours. Pat too.

Judy and family, we wish to extend our condolences to you and the family. John was definitely a man to remember. As many have said, he was larger than life and a presence in any room. We all saw that side of him as well as the family man side. He loved you all deeply. I remember his generosity in hosting staff parties at his place. He was very proud of his family. He was always very supportive and probably played a large role in my acquiring various teaching and leadership positions. He worked hard for both the Middlesex and Thames Valley Boards as Superintendent. He has left a legacy to be proud of and will be remembered by many. May that bring you all some comfort. From the Marentette family, Lanny, Elaine, Danielle and Nicole

I have some very early, very fond, memories of John. I remember revelling in the warmth of his booming laugh as a kid at family gatherings, feeling like I was "on the inside" when he shot me a smile on the sly as he walked the halls of Valley View Public School as Superintendent, and putting up road signs with him throughout Strathroy for Rose Marie Ur. I am very grieved by his passing, and pray much comfort - and even laughter - as you remember his remarkable life.

John and I sat on the Student Parliament at the London Teachers’ College, Class of 1964. As is the case so often, John and I did not cross paths after graduating. I do remember John as a quietly effective member of our team and contributed exacting assessments of the plans which we had discussed. I’m pleased to learn that John had an extremely fine career in education and am in no way surprised. To John’s family, please accept my sincere condolences on John’s passing. As will you, I shall retain warm memories of time shared with John.

Sending my condolences to Judy and the whole family. I was saddened to know of John's decline in the last few years and of his passing. The Gibsons and the Mackeys go back to the days of Murray Sr and my dad growing up together and creating havoc in Strathroy dare I say more than 90 or so years ago. I have cherished memories of our families celebrating the joys and trials of life and so many "everydays" in between. Whenever John was around we knew that his larger than life presence would make for lively discussion and fun times. So many laughs. Never a dull moment when John and Judy came over. You truly captured his legacy in your words here. I am thinking of you all. Sincerely Jane Gibson

My time spent with John on the Police Services Board was marked by serious work but we had a lot of fun and laughter along the way. He had an incredible depth of knowledge on many issues. As a kid you feared him coming into the school because he looked so serious and yet the man I got to know as an adult was a man of understanding, compassion and empathy. He was able to see things from a different perspective than his own even if in the course of 'business' he wasn't able to show it.
As a neighbour he was quick to wave and easy to have a chat over the fence. I was sad when left our little neighbourhood and now sadder that he has left us but I am richer for the experience of having worked with and known him.
Definitely my thoughts and condolences go out to Judy, John, Murray, and Mona.

So sorry to hear of John’s passing. He was a giant of a man both in his public and private life. He ran his schools with firmness and fairness. He was deeply devoted to both his family and his job as an educator. He loved golf and the Masonic order. Rest in peace and hit them long and straight John. You now have joined the great former golfers. Gerry Adlington
